Course summary

Unit 1: drama, one Shakespeare play and one other drama from either tragedy or comedy alongside critical essays - 30% of A-level Unit 2: prose, two texts from a chosen theme. At least one must be pre-1900. - 20% of total A-level Unit 3: poetry, poetic form, meaning and language including a selection of post-2000 specified poetry and a specific range of poetry or a named poet - 30% of A-level Unit 4: non-exam assessment (NEA)You will choose and study two texts, approved by your teacher and write an extended comparative essay. - 20 % of A-level

Entry requirements

To gain entry into the Taverham Sixth Form for A-level studies, you will need six Grade 4s or above in your GCSEs which must include GCSE English Language and Maths. In a subject that you have taken at GCSE and wish to continue, Grade 5 is recommended in that subject. Attitude to learning and attendance at GCSE will be taken into account when looking at progression within a subject. In essay-based subjects, we strongly recommend a Grade 5 in English. In science-based subjects, we strongly recommend a Grade 5 in maths.
