At A level you will be introduced to new areas of Mathematics as well as developing some of the skills and areas you have studied at GCSE Higher Level. Some of the new areas in Pure Mathematics are: • Calculus. • Trigonometry (not just in triangles). • Logarithms and Exponential. • Vectors. • Sequences and Series. • Geometry on a Coordinate grid. All students also study Applied Mathematics in the areas of Mechanics and Statistics. Some of the content this covers is: • Statistical Sampling. • Data presentation and interpretation. • Probability. • Statistical Distributions. • Distance, velocity, and acceleration (Kinematics). • Forces and Newton’s Laws.
Five GCSES at grades 9-5, which must include grade 9-5 in GCSE English Language and Mathematics. GCSE graded 9-7 in Maths.
A-Level assessment involves 3 x 2hr examination papers. Paper 1 on pure mathematics Paper 2 pure and mechanics Paper 3 pure and statistics.
