The course is designed to give you an understanding of some of the fundamental ideas in Chemistry and provide a comprehensive journey through the systems that control and manage living organisms, including: Physical Chemistry: Atomic Structure and Bonding; Thermodynamics, rate equations and acids and bases Inorganic Chemistry: The alkaline earth metals (group 2) and halogens (group 7) of the periodic table; Transition metals and the reactions of ions in aqueous solution Organic Chemistry: The structure and properties of alkanes, alkenes and alcohols; Polymers, aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids.
Students must achieve at least grade 6/6 Combined Science or grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry. Students should also achieve at least a grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
