Twenty years ago the media could be summed up as mainly print (newspapers and magazines) and audiovisual (television, radio, and a huge number of additional channels that let us receive news, entertainment, information, and advertising. This new digital media includes the Internet and mobile phones, which provide us with continuous access to blogs, social networking sites, and emails. The media studies course is designed to enhance your enjoyment, understanding, and appreciation of the media and its role in your daily life. The course introduces you both to media ideas and the practice of production, which gives you the chance to develop a real understanding of media platforms, and the contemporary media landscape in today’s society. As a consumer you will become more aware of the many ways in which media messages are presented to us, as well as discovering how the institutions that produce and distribute media you. If you want a career in media or marketing, your experience producing and evaluating your own media productions will give you a real hands-on understanding of both how media messages are created and their aims.
A minimum of a grade 5 in English language.
There are two examinations and one coursework production in the final year of the course.
