The course provides you with an understanding of a child’s growth and development from birth up to 8 years-old. You will also consider theories and models of development and how they can be applied to childcare practice, as well as the factors which influence a children’s development and the importance of recognising atypical development. You will study the physical development and care needs of children and approaches to their healthy development. In addition to your studies in school, you will also be required to complete a 50 hour work placement in a relevant childcare setting.
Students must have five 9-4 grades at GCSE (including English and Maths). Allowances will be made for students who have achieved a Merit at the Level 2 Tech Award for Health & Social Care .
