As you progress through the course you will build on your knowledge of the laws of Physics, applying your understanding to solve problems on topics ranging from sub-atomic particles to the entire Universe. Module 1 Development of Practical Skills in Physics. Module 2 Foundations in Physics Module 3 Forces and Motion. Module 4 Electrons, Waves and Photons Module 5 Newtonian World and Astrophysics. Module 6 Fields, Particles, and Frontiers of Physics. This course requires a substantial amount of independent study & consolidation of classwork. Physics is a highly academic subject & is only suitable for those who can sustain dedication & self-motivation throughout. Skills developed throughout include the knowledge & understanding of many physical facts & ideas, the use of practical techniques, and the designing of experiments; all of which will be assessed within the exams. Maths skills are required throughout & are also included in the written exams.
Two GCSE subjects at Grade 6 and four GCSE subjects at Grade 5 grades. Grade 6-6 in GCSE Combined Science or a Grade 6 in GCSE Triple Physics plus a Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
Unit 1 Modelling Physics - assesses content from modules 1-3 and 5 (2 hours 15 minute written paper worth 100 marks. 37% of A-level). Unit 2 Exploring Physics - assesses content from modules 1, 2, 4, and 6 (2 hours 15 minute written paper worth 100 marks. 37% of A-level). Unit 3 Unified Physics - assesses content from all modules (1 to 6) (1 hour 30 minute written paper worth 70 marks. 26% of A-level). Unit 4 Practical Endorsement in Physics - non-exam assessment, reported separately.
