Course summary

Students acquire a systematic and comprehensive knowledge of Chemistry, in addition to meeting cutting edge applications in the chemical industry and in modern life. The A-level is taught in context via a series of Storylines over the two years. Starting with Elements for Life, the Storylines cover a diverse range of chemical ideas, from Developing Fuels through the Ozone Story, to the biochemistry of Polymers, and the chemistry of the Oceans. You will develop your experimental, analytical and research skills through a variety of practical activities, and these skills will contribute to the Practical Endorsement, which is awarded at the end of the course.

Entry requirements

• GCSE Grade 6 or above in Chemistry is required to study this subject at A-level & those candidates studying Combined Science at GCSE, a Grade 6 and above in the Chemistry component is required. • A Grade 6 or above in Mathematics is also required to cope with the mathematical content of the course • A minimum of four grades at 6 or above at GCSE • A grade 5 or higher in GCSE English • A grade 5 or higher in GCSE Mathematics
