From the microscopically small to the incredibly large, physics is the study of energy and matter and the forces which govern the Universe. In this age of computers, laser technology and the internet, physics has played a key role in the technological advances, making a physicist of each of us, and the course is designed to place your studies in this wider context. The breadth of study gives you flexibility in the future, whether you wish to continue to study science beyond A Level or move straight into a job in the technological field.
General Entry Criteria: An APS (average GCSE point score) of greater than 4.5 drawn from all GCSE results (from a minimum of 6 entries). Either Maths Grade 4 and/or English Language or Literature Grade 4. Note: Only one BTEC or GCSE equivalent vocational course may be counted. ECDL or similar non-GCSE equivalent courses do not count for 6th Form entry. For Physics you will also require a Grade 7 in GCSE Physics or a Grade 7/7 in Combined Science and a Grade 6 in GCSE Maths.
There are six units in the specification: three at AS and three at A2. Four of the units are assessed by exam. There are two units assessing investigative and practical skills.
