Biology is the study of life. At any level of study, this subject is based on the structure, working, and lives of plants and animals. At Advanced Level, however, the depth of knowledge becomes greater and the finer detail of living organisms is brought to life. Biology covers many topics, from conservation to the intricacies of cell ultra-structure. Module 1 Development of Practical Skills in Biology Module 2 Foundations in Biology Module 3 Exchange and Transport Module 4 Biodiversity, Evolution and Disease Module 5 Communication, Homeostasis, and Energy Module 6 Genetics, Evolution, and Ecosystems This course requires a substantial amount of independent study & consolidation of classwork. It's a highly academic subject & only suitable for students who can sustain dedication & self-motivation throughout. Skills developed include knowledge & understanding of many biological facts & ideas, the use of practical techniques, and the designing of experiments; all of which will be assessed within the exams. Math skills are required throughout & are also included in the written examinations.
Two GCSE subjects at Grade 6 and four GCSE subjects at Grade 5 grades. Grade 6-6 in Combined Science or a Grade 6 in Triple Biology and a Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
Unit 1 Foundation in Biology - assesses content from modules 1-3 & 5 - 2 hour 15 minute written paper worth 100 marks. 37% of A-level. Unit 2 Biological Diversity - assesses content from modules 1,2,4 & 6 - 2 hour 15 minute written paper worth 100 marks. 37% of A-level. Unit 3 Unified Biology - assesses content from all modules - 1 hour 30 minute written paper worth 70 marks. 26% of A-level.
