Course summary

The Extended Certificate is for pupils who are interested in learning about the performing arts sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses. There are four units in the course that all link together creating a clear through thread and linking purpose. The content links highly with employers’ needs and desires within the performing arts.

Entry requirements

For a place in QESixth, achieving five grades 9 – 5 is the minimum requirement including at least a grade 5 in English Language and Maths. Preferred: • L2 Merit in Performing Arts or Grade 6 in Drama • Grade 6 in English Language Essential: • L2 Pass in Performing Arts Grade 5 in English plus experience in Dance and/or Drama either in or outside school

How you'll be assessed

Assessments and projects are chosen to help you progress to the next stage. This means that some are set by the teacher and meet internal needs, whereas others are set by external examiners and assess core skills and understanding. You will be assessed through a combination of practical and written assignments and tasks. This style of assessment is designed to help you analyse and improve skills through the course, build strong study skills, showcase achievements and feel confident about applying knowledge in practical work.
