We offer this course as a single or double option. The course is split into both examined units and coursework units. Students will study a wide variety of sport subject topics. From sports coaching, organisation of sport, sports industry, the body systems and sports psychology. All students will also take the practical in sport unit in which students will have the opportunity in school time to be assessed in a team and individual sport and also the opportunity to perform in and outdoor adventure activity.
If students have studied either GCSE PE or Sports Studies then a grade 4 or level 2 Merit is needed, and students must achieve grade 4 in both English language and English literature and a grade 4 4 in double award science. If students have not studied GCSE PE or Sports Studies, then they must achieve a grade 4 in both English language and English literature and a grade 4 5 in double award science.
Students will be assessed in both coursework and examined units. Students studying the single option will take an exam in the January and Summer exam series in Y12. Students studying the double award will sit 2 exams in January and 1 in the summer series of Y12 also. On top of the examined units, students will complete moderated Unit assignments. The single award will complete 3, whilst the double award completes a further 9 units. This is assessed by using a variety of methods such as presentations, interviews, coaching sessions and written reports.
