Course summary

If you have a caring nature and want to begin your career in the care sector then this course will provide you with the knowledge, understanding practical skills and experience you need. Alternatively, it offers you a route into Higher Education in a variety of different degree programmes. The Level 3 programme gives you the opportunity to experience aspects of the industry through a mixture of theory and practice, equipping you with the essential knowledge and skills required to progress to employment or higher education in a related field of study. You will develop skills and knowledge, covering Anatomy & Physiology, infection prevention, as well as physiological, sociological and psychological health care perspectives and working practices. A proportion of the course will be delivered in our simulated hospital ward, co-designed with staff from the NHS, to ensure that learning takes place in a realistic workplace setting. And of course, we will expect you to wear a uniform which meets industry standards. You will benefit from our strong links with the NHS and particularly the Young Health Champions Volunteering Programme which will give you an invaluable insight into different job roles within the NHS. You may wish to complete your 175-hour work placement within the NHS, where you would be placed in an area according to your interest and career aspiration (eg: Adult ward, Paediatrics etc). If you do not, our dedicated Work Placement Officer will support you to find an alternative placement setting. We also offer additional qualifications to boost your knowledge and employability and support progression to HE - eg. Emergency First Aid at Work, Award in Higher Level Studies (which gives extra 8 UCAS points). If you wish to seek employment within the sector, this course will equip you for various support roles in areas such as residential care homes, nursing homes, day centres, children’s centres, health centres, supported or sheltered accommodation, domiciliary or community care and respite care.
