Course summary

To develop students to have a lifelong love of physical activity, through a stimulating curriculum igniting a passion for being active and healthy. We also aim for our students to be successful in both Sport and PE courses by developing their skill and knowledge across a range of activities. BTEC Sport Level 3 Extended Certificate is equivalent to 1 A Level and perfect for you if you are interested in sport and the sports industry. They are work related courses, covering a range of activity tasks, practical performance, role play, written tasks and exams. The courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for success in future employment in sport and related industries. You will cover units such as; Anatomy and Physiology (this unit is externally assessed via an exam), Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Wellbeing and Sports Leadership to name a few. With the Diploma being the equivalent of 2 A Levels, a further additional 5 units will be covered on top of those completed for the Extended Certificate qualification, taking the total number of units covered to 9 and up to 14 units for the extended diploma which is worth 3 A Levels.

Entry requirements

- Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above; including English and/or Maths. - National data suggests successful students will have achieved an average points score of 4.0 or more.

How you'll be assessed

BTEC courses are vocational which allows you to develop your writing skills extensively. You will be assessed via an exam, set tasks and coursework. Your assessment will involve completing activities including assignments with vocational scenarios that are related to the world of work. Skills developed will include note taking – vital for coursework, written communication, organisation, time management, presentation skills, interaction with others, independence, communication skills and resilience.
