This course is for Students with an interest in science who are well organised, hard working, have excellent mathematical skills and have good problem solving skills. The course is divided into physical chemistry, organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry. Chemistry is concerned with the science of matter, particularly its structure, properties and reactions. Chemistry is of central importance to the sciences as a whole as the chemical reactions that it governs are fundamental to all of science. Chemistry helps you to develop research, problem solving and analytical skills. It helps to you challenge ideas and show how you worked things out through logic and step-by-step reasoning. There are 12 assessed practicals to complete over the 2 year course. These assess skills such as following instructions, planning an experiment using appropriate references, recording results, completing a risk assessment etc.
English -Grade 5, Maths - Grade 5, Chemistry/Trilogy - Grade 6 and 2 additional Grade 4'S.
You are assessed by terminal assessments. You will sit 3 papers at the end of year 13. 1 is physical chemistry and inorganic chemistry topics with practical skills compromising 105 marks. It is a 2 hour exam and is 35%. 2 consists of physical chemistry, organic chemistry and practical skills and is 35%. 3 is any content from the two years and is 30%. This paper has 30 marks of multiple choice questions. You will also be assessed in practical skills. 12 assessed practicals over the 2 year course.
