Course summary

Do you love Art? Have you successfully completed a GCSE in Art? Are you the next Jenny Saville, Damien Hirst or Jackson Pollock? Do you want to spend two years exploring ideas, developing creative skills, using your imagination and producing stunning Art work? Then A Level Fine Art is for you! Join us on a two-year journey of artistic discovery. You will have the opportunity to develop your technical skills, deepen your understanding of the art world and broaden your creative horizons! You will work closely with the art tutors, in a similar way that a foundation course is taught at university, creating projects and experiencing a range of techniques, in order for you to decide on your specialism in art. The starting themes vary depending on the art staff interests and/or exhibitions of interest, but you will work through a range of skills/techniques; painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture and printmaking. You will be expected to produce sketchbook work (including artist references) and outcomes. The personal project will be individually chosen, with guidance from art staff. This coursework will form 60% of the final grade. There is an essay element to the coursework, which is marked alongside the practical coursework. The ESA (externally set assignment) is the final exam unit, with a 15-hour exam at the end of the course.
