A Level Drama and Theatre Studies demands practical, creative and communication skills in almost equal measure. You will extend your ability to create Drama and Theatre in groups and individually. You will also be required to write about Drama and to develop your powers of analysis to become an informed critic. The course will involve taking part in productions, as well as studying plays, playwrights and theatre practitioners.
At least 6 GCSEs in grades 9 to 4, including GCSE English Language, and meeting the entry criteria of individual subjects (Level 2 vocational qualifications at Merit or Distinction will be treated as equivalent to one GCSE) Grade 4 in GCSE Drama or Performing Arts (or Merit at L2 BTEC equivalent). However, if this has not been taken, then considerable practical experience is required in Drama and/or Performing Arts. Following an interview, prospective students may be called to enjoy a group audition workshop to ensure the suitability of the chosen Performing Arts course.
40% - study of a practitioner and performance text leading to an examined devised performance and a written coursework portfolio 20% teacher directed group performance based on a performance text. In addition a monologue of an extract from a performance text (externally assessed) 40% written examination based on two set performance texts, and a live theatre experience
