Course summary

Inequality Poverty Wealth Creation Globalisation Business Growth Productivity Demand and supply for goods and services Emerging Economies Aid Dependency Tax The Welfare State Effects of industrialization are some of the subject areas that we cover in Economics. The key to what we do is to explore and discover the economic question: humans have infinite needs and wants and our demands constantly change. but resources to supply these needs and wants are finite. So, how do we allocate resources, what do we do to produce more resources, how do countries develop, what happens when countries and people have too few resources and what do we do about it? These are some of the key questions that we cover at A Level. Students can expect to learn, for example, about why the Tiger Economies grew so successfully, Latin American attitudes towards imports and exports, the UK’s approach to reducing inequality, and Trade Blocs such as the EU and NAFTA. Economics seeks to equip students with the skills to understand the world around them. Students embarking on the course should have good basic numeracy and literacy, and be genuinely curious about how the world works.
