IT is at the heart of everyday life, at home, at work, and in our leisure time from computer graphics and control systems to communications and problem-solving, IT has an ever-increasing role to play. Cambridge Technical are vocational qualifications that are designed to give you a work-focused alternative to A Levels. They’ve been designed to give you opportunities to demonstrate and develop the practical application of knowledge and understanding in the areas of work that appeal to you. This will enable you to develop your research skills as you work, both independently and with colleagues, to progress through your qualifications. This course is delivered by either 1 or 2 teachers covering the same units over 5 hours per week. Each week a new topic is taught and the entire week is dedicated to this topic. Over the first few hours, you will be taught new content and conduct your own research. This will be accompanied by a series of tasks that will continue into the final hours of the week’s lessons. Finally for home study, you are required to build a website using Google Sites that will act as your own revision as well as be able to use it for our Web Design unit in the second year of the course.
You must have achieved 5 passes including mathematics and English, where a pass is defined as GCSE 9-4 and pass or better at level 2 BTEC. A GCSE in Computer Science is preferred, however not essential. Students should have a GCSE grade 5 in English and Math's. A willingness to learn and an enthusiasm for both Computer Science and ICT.
This course is assessed through a combination of both exam and coursework based assessment. Unit 1 and 2 are exam based whilst the remaining units are coursework based.
