Course summary

In this course, you will learn about the technical side of producing music. In the age we live in, very rarely will you hear a recording that has not been manipulated in one way or another. We look at production techniques, effects, digital and analogue recording, sequencing, scoring, arranging and the use of computers. A great deal of the year will be spent working on the large coursework requirements for which you will be required to give up time after school and at weekends in order to make use of the facilities undisturbed. We will study set pieces from a wide variety of popular music since the era of recording began.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 6 or above in Music and Grade 5 in Physics (Triple Science) or in both sciences in Combined Science. Keyboard skills are a big advantage.

How you'll be assessed

Components 1 and 2 are externally assessed coursework (40%). The final 60% is achieved through two examinations... Component 3: 1 hour 30 minutes Component 4: 2 hours 15 minutes
