Course summary
Make a significant contribution to the choice and design of an extended project and take responsibility either for an individual task or for a defined task within a group project. It helps to develop and improve their own learning and performance as critical, reflective and independent students. They need to develop and apply decision-making and problem solving skills to be successful in this qualification, as well as extend their planning, research, critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and presentation skills. It is partly taught but mostly independent and student led. Skills which are taught are research skills, referencing, evaluating research methods and how to follow the necessary format for the EPQ. Students choose their research area which cannot overlap with their curriculum. They have to design and monitor an action plan with set objectives which they decide and keep to.
