Equivalent in size to one A Level. This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels. In the level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport you will study 4 different units from a wide range of topics. Within these units you will develop an understanding of applied anatomy and exercise physiology and how physical activity can improve your health and fitness through classroom and practical-based learning. In addition to these units you will acquire knowledge of the sports industry.
Students currently studying a BTEC/Applied course require a Merit to proceed onto the Level 3 course, in addition to 4 other GCSEs 9-4. To undertake a Level 3 BTEC/Applied Course without having previously studied the subject in Year 11, 5 GCSE grades 9-4 are required.
You will be assessed in a variety of different ways depending on the unit you are studying. Of the 4 units you will cover, 2 units are mandatory examinations, and 2 units are external assignment based assessments. The units of study include: • Anatomy & Physiology • Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being • Professional Development in the Sports Industry • Application of Fitness Testing
