An English Literature A Level course involves developing your analysis of and interest in literary texts. The course will require you to make connections between texts and to approach the reading and study of literature through the lens of genre and theory. A Level English Literature is a course for those students who enjoy reading and interrogating texts. The course encourages students to develop a wide range of skills, such as the ability to read critically, analyse, evaluate and undertake independent research which are valuable for both further study and future employment. Wider reading is an essential element of the syllabus and requires a great deal of work so it requires conscientious study.
Students will need to achieve at least five GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above, including English and Maths. The minimum requirement is at least grade 6 in GCSE English Literature and grade 6 in English Language.
