Course summary

Chemistry is the study of matter. It discusses the composition, structure, properties, and change of matter on the level of molecules and atoms. It allows students to find out why things do what they do….its a bit like cooking, but don’t lick the spoon. Year 12: Development of practical skills in chemistry Foundations in chemistry Periodic table and energy Core organic chemistry and analysis Year 13: Development of practical skills in chemistry Physical chemistry and transition elements Organic chemistry and analysis A qualification in chemistry opens doors to a wide range of careers. Chemistry is involved in our everyday lives and there is a vast range of jobs and careers open to those who have studied chemistry at any level e.g. medical physics, nursing, forensics, chemical engineering, and pharmaceuticals to name a few.

Entry requirements

To undertake advanced level courses you will require a minimum of five GCSEs in five separate subjects, at grade C or above, including English and Mathematics, both at least a minimum of grade 4. BTEC qualifications will count as one subject and must be graded a Distinction or above. Chemistry GCSE grade B or grade 6 is required, students must have studied either Triple or Additional Science.

How you'll be assessed

Internal Theory of this is also assessed within external exams.
