Course summary

This is a very engaging and exciting BTEC course. Since it is a Level 3 National Extended Certificate, it is equivalent to one A-Level. Within this BTEC, you will study Applied Human Biology, which forms the foundation of the health and health science sectors. Two units will be covered, those being: Unit 1: Principles of Applied Human Biology. This unit will explore topics such as cells, tissues, body systems, genetics, and health. Unit 2: Practical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. This unit will delve into topics such as characteristics of microorganisms & pathogenicity as well as transmission, prevention, and treatment of disease. This is a very valuable qualification to have; it is recognised by universities for admission to Applied Human Biology/Health Science courses if taken alongside other Level 3 qualifications. This course can help you progress into a wide variety of areas, such as Biological Sciences, Forensic Biology, Paramedic Science, Nutrition, Physiotherapy, Sport and Exercise Science, Psychology, and Nursing.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 6 grade 4s, including a grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language, is required. GCSE Maths must also be at a grade 3 as a minimum. If GCSE Maths is at a grade 3, you would have to resit it. A minimum of a grade 4 in GCSE Core Science or GCSE Additional or Applied Science is also required.
