
A Level Psychology at the John Port Spencer Academy is a two-year, 100% examination course which aims to equip students with the ability to understand human behaviour from a variety of perspectives. In Year 1, students learn to use both scientific and unscientific methods to explore causes of behaviour in a variety of fascinating topic areas, probing students to find answers to questions; such as What causes phobias? How and why are people influenced by others? What happens when children don’t form secure attachments? and the biology and functionality of the brain. In year 2, students tackle more challenging topics such as the psychology of gender, the origin and treatment of disorders like Schizophrenia and theories on addiction, together with a more rigorous look at statistical testing and the scientific nature of Psychology.
• Grade 5 in GCSE Psychology (if taken, not compulsory). • Desirable grade 6 in GCSE Biology Triple Science or grade 66 in Trilogy Science. • Grade 5 in GCSE English Language and Maths.
