You will study problem solving in the context of statistics and finance. Core Maths has been designed to maintain and develop real-life skills. What you study is not purely theoretical or abstract; it can be applied on a day to day basis in work, study or life and the course includes a financial Maths element. Core Maths will also help with other A Level subjects in particular with Science, Geography, Business Studies, Psychology and Economics. The skills developed in the study of Maths are increasingly important in the workplace and in higher education; studying Core Maths will help you keep up these essential skills. On average, students who study Maths after GCSE improve their career choices and increase their earning prospects. The course is made up of: - Analysis of data - Maths for personal finance - Estimation - Critical analysis of given data and models (including spreadsheets and tabular data) - The normal distribution - Probabilities and estimation - Correlation and regression
At least a Grade 4 in GCSE Maths
At the end of the year there will be two papers each 1.5 hours long and worth 60 marks.
