Year 1: You will spend the year learning how to use an SLR camera and develop your images through Photo-shop. You will learn how to make relevant connections to the work of others. Essentially this is the development year in preparation for Year 2. Year 2: Component 1: Personal investigation This is a practical investigation supported by written material. The investigation will be a coherent, in-depth study developing a sustained investigation from an initial starting point to a final realization. The written element is a structured response of between 1000 and 3000 words. Component 2: Externally set assignment You will choose one of the exam board’s externally set questions and develop this into a body of work. Following the preparatory period you will complete a fifteen hour exam. You will develop one or more of the following: • Portraiture • Landscape photography • Still life • Documentary photography • Fashion photography • Experimental photography • Multimedia • Photographic installation • Moving image (video, film, animation)
To study A Level at The South Wolds Academy and Sixth Form you must achieve at least six GCSE passes, two at Grade 6 or above and four at Grade 5 or above Grade 6 or above in GCSE Art or a similar subject is desirable
Assessment is marked against AQA’s marking criteria. Portfolio is 60% and the externally set assignment 40% of your final grade. The written element is a structured response of between 1000 and 3000 words.
