Media Studies is the academic study of mass communication: film; radio; TV; video games; newspapers; magazines; music videos; the internet; advertising and how they attempt to manipulate their audience(s) into thinking or reacting in a particular way. There is a theoretical aspect and a practical aspect to this course: the coursework element requires you to create media texts of your own, working to a professional style brief which is set by the exam board. The exam elements require you to study industries as a whole as well as individual case studies, such as Minecraft and The Daily Mail.
Grade 5 in either English Language OR English Literature, but a grade 6 in either subject is advisable.
