A Level Music enables students to extend their knowledge and understanding of music, to create and develop their own musical ideas and to demonstrate technical, interpretative and communication skills through performing.
Grade 6 in Music, or interview with Mrs O’Neil/Mr Miller if this is not achieved.
Component 1: Performing (35%) externally assessed. A performance of one or more pieces, performed as a recital. This can be a solo or ensemble performance. Component 2: Composing (25%) externally assessed. Two compositions: one to a set brief and one free composition. Component 3: Appraising (40%) exam. Application of knowledge through the context of three areas of study: 1) Western Classical Tradition 2) Option from Rock and Pop, Musical Theatre and Jazz 3) Music in the 20th Century
