
Further Mathematics extends the knowledge gained in A Level Mathematics to include mathematics that would otherwise not be encountered at A Level. The course is designed to meet the needs of more able mathematicians and scientists or engineers as they progress to mathematically demanding university courses.It is essential that students enjoy problem solving and a high level of mathematical challenge. The course consists of three sections. Further Core Mathematics which will cover areas such as complex numbers, matrices and curve sketching and then the choice of two other sections depending on the particular interest of the students in the class but the options available are: Further Pure, Further Statistics, Further Mechanics and Decision Mathematics.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4. Students applying to the 6th Form without GCSEs but with an equivalent qualification must provide confirmation from their most recent educational establishment of courses studied, levels of attainment and equivalent grades with reference to GCSE grades 9 to 1. Additional Requirements: Students will need a Grade 8 Mathematics GCSE
Students will take four examinations at the end of Year 13. Two papers on Further Core Mathematics and two on the additional choices made by the class. Each paper is equally weighted.
