Geography at A level is one of the most varied. It is designed to tie in closely with the skills of GCSE, and this course helps to put you in charge of your own learning and investigate issues of interest to you. The course topics may include: • Hazards • Coastal landscapes and systems • Migration • Power and borders • Disease dilemmas • An individual investigation – 3000 to 4000 word investigation based on an independent study or linked to topics studies as part of the A-Level The individual investigation is a chance to put into practice all the skills learned during the course, and to gain an in-depth understanding of something that really interests you.
You should have at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 6 or above, with geography at a grade 6 or above. This is a level 3 course, which demands a high level of numeracy, thinking ability and organisational skills. However, a strong interest in the subject is equally as important.
3 external exams and a 3000 to 4000 word geographical investigation.
