This course is ideally for anyone wishing to pursue a career in the sport and active leisure industry. The course provides a balance of breadth and depth, while retaining a degree of choice for individual learners to study content relevant to their own interests and progression choices. The course is ideal for students with a keen interest in sport and gives you a good breath of knowledge allowing you to move either into work or progress onto university for further study. (Equivalent in size to 1.5 A Levels) 7 units of which 4 are mandatory and 2 are external. Compulsory units: Anatomy and Physiology (external) Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (external) Professional Development in the Sports Industry Sports Leadership Optional units: Practical Sports Performance Fitness testing Sports Psychology
To be accepted on this course you will need a good attendance and punctuality record, preferably 5 GCSEs grade 9-5. It is not a requirement that you have studied sport before, but you should have a keen interest in sport and physical education.
All assignments are marked by your teacher in relation to the set criteria that is appropriate to each unit learning outcome. You will be awarded either a Pass, merit or Distinction for each assignment. The 2 external units are exam based and one is sat in year 12, the other in year 13.
