Course summary

The BTEC National course in Applied Science course covers the fundamentals of science, working in the science industry, perceptions of science, scientific investigation and practical techniques. You will also study statistics, human physiology and anatomy, disease and infection, human regulation and reproduction, medical physics techniques, organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry.

Entry requirements

Grades 5-4 in GCSE Combined Science. GCSE Maths: 4 GCSE English: 4 These requirements are in addition to the general entry requirements: have at least a grade 4 in both English language and mathematics and have at least two grades 5 and three grades 4 at GCSE

How you'll be assessed

This course has both internally and externally assessed components. Internally assessed units require students to: • Write up the findings of their own research • Use case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations • Carry out projects for which they have choice over the direction and outcomes • Demonstrate practical and technical skills using appropriate equipment, procedures and techniques. Externally assessed units vary depending on whether studying the Extended Certificate, Diploma or Extended Diploma course. However, all external assessment involves written examinations in scientific investigations, physics, biology and chemistry units.
