These courses provide students with opportunities to develop personal responses to ideas, observations, experiences, environments and cultures in practical, critical and contextual forms. A range of materials, techniques and processes are covered to include: - painting and drawing - photography - ceramics - sculpture - computer graphics - textiles and print making Both Art and Design courses are available as unendorsed (broad based) or endorsed (specialist) courses.
5 GCSE’s at grade A* - C Experience of GCSE Art and Design Experience of BTEC Level 2 Art and Design.
All course work is set and marked by the department and moderated by the exam board. At both AS and ‘A’ level the first units constitute 60% of the overall marks and the exam unit 40%. All units are assessed internally and moderated by the exam board in May/June. Exam papers are issued in early February to allow students time for preparatory work prior to the commencement of the examination for either AS or ‘A’ level.and can be completed over two years with or without previously studying AS: • Unit 1: Personal Investigation based on an idea, issue, concept or theme, to include a written critical study of the work of between 1000-3000 words showing how work developed and related to work of other artists. • Unit 2: A 15 hour examination based on one of eight starting points set by AQA.
