Course summary

The Computer Science qualification will be relevant to the modern and changing world of computing, and they will also be relevant to the higher education community. Computer Science is a practical subject where students can apply the academic principles learned in the classroom to real world systems. The Computer Science qualification help students develop the skills to solve problems, design systems and understand the power and limits of human and machine intelligence.

Entry requirements

5 A* - C GCSE or Equivalent including English and Maths, or continuing study of GCSE English and Maths in addition to other courses if not achieved. This course has additional requirements: GCSE Computer Science at a grade B or greater

How you'll be assessed

The AS and A-Level Computer Science qualifications is built upon the GCSE Computing and emphasises the importance of computational thinking as a discipline. The AS will consist of two components, which will be externally assessed and weighted at 50% each. There is no coursework component. The A-Level will consist of three components, two of which will be externally marked question papers making up 80% of the qualification. The other 20% will be the coursework project, which have greater focus on coding and programming.
