Course summary

Sociologists try to understand human behavior, studying the way society shapes individual lives by refusing to take for granted the most obvious day-to-day experiences of people. Sociology allows students to gain a greater understanding of the complex and simple nature of humans and their societies. By studying societal behavior, students be able to make comparisons, attempt to solve issues, and have a rational perception of some of society's more frustrating habits. Year 12: - Families - Education - Theory & Methods Year 13: - Beliefs in Society - Crime & Deviance - Theory & Methods This qualification offers an engaging and effective introduction to sociology. Students will learn the fundamentals of the subject and develop skills valued by higher education and employers, including critical analysis, independent thinking, and research. Many of those who study sociology at A level go on to study sociology at university, but psychology, teaching, nursing, law, and business have also been chosen pathways over recent years.

Entry requirements

To undertake advanced level courses you will require a minimum of five GCSEs in five separate subjects, at grade C or above, including English and Mathematics, both at least a minimum of grade 4. BTEC qualifications will count as one subject and must be graded a Distinction or above.

How you'll be assessed

Three externally examined papers.
