Course summary

To provide a stimulating and rewarding educational experience allowing students to study a variety of topics in A-level Physics. The topics give students the opportunity to pursue their own interests in the subject through extended practical projects and information research. The course follows an academic approach to contextual learning where students develop their understanding using real-world applications to enhance their understanding. All assessments are written with a mixture of short and longer structured answers. Practical work is assessed as part of the written examinations and as a separate Practical Endorsement Qualification carried out over the 2 years of course. This course is suitable for any motivated student who is good at logical reasoning and maths skills. It provides a foundation for an apprenticeship or degree in Astrophysics, Applied or Theoretical Physics, Astronomy, Artificial Intelligence, Micro-electronic Science, Medicine, IT, Optometry, Aeronautical / Electrical / Mechanical engineering, Software and Computing, as well as Architecture. This course also suits a motivated learner who is willing to reason out problems and really push to find the answers to the world around them.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 9-5, including Mathematics and English. + GCSE grade 7 in Physics or combined science and GCSE grade 7 Mathematics.

How you'll be assessed

All subjects will be terminally examined at the end of two years, with internal exams throughout year 1 and 2.
