Year 12 topics: • Paper One – Love Through the Ages • Topic 1: ‘Othello’ by William Shakespeare • Topic 2: ‘The Great Gatsby’ by F. Scott Fitzgerald and a Pre-1900 poetry anthology • Topic 3: Unseen Love Poetry from across time Year 13 topics: • Paper Two – Literature in Context (World War One) • Topic 4: Prose text – ‘Life Class’ by Pat Barker • Topic 5: Drama text: ‘Journey’s End’, by R.C. Sherriff • Topic 6: War Poetry Anthology • Topic 7: Unseen War Prose Throughout this course you will have the opportunity to develop the following skills: • Confidence in developing and articulating personal and creative responses to literary texts, using relevant concepts and terminology. • The ability to craft analytical responses around how meaning is shaped through language, form and structure. • Exploration and evaluation of the significance and influence of the contexts in which literary texts are written and received. • Evaluation and investigation of connections across and between literary texts studied. • Debating and discussion of different interpretations of texts studied.

Entry requirements

5 grade 5 GCSEs including English Language and English Literature.

How you'll be assessed

There are two external exams sat in May/June at the end of Year 13, as well as a range of both in-class and formal mock exams across the two year course. The external exams are: • Paper 1: Love Through the Ages (40%) • Paper 2: Literature in Context – World War One (40%) • NEA : one x independent coursework piece, focused on an independent study and comparative study of two texts (20%)
