This qualification provides an introduction to the Health and Social Care sector and is equivalent in size to one A-Level. It is an excellent choice for anyone interested in a career in nursing, social work, care or other health-related professions. THE COURSE 4 units are studied throughout the 2-year course. Unit 1 – Human Lifespan Development (exam). Learners cover physical, intellectual, emotional and social development across the human lifespan, and the factors affecting development and the effects of ageing. Unit 2 – Working in Health and Social Care (exam). Learners explore what it is like to work in the health and social care sector, including the roles and responsibilities of workers. Unit 5 – Meeting individual care and support needs (coursework). Learners focus on the principles and practicalities that underpin meeting individuals’ care and support needs, which are the foundation of all the care disciplines. Unit 12 – Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs (coursework). Learners explore the role of health and social care services in providing care and support to individuals with additional needs. A 5-day work placement is included as part of the course and provides valuable practical experience in a health or social care setting.
Student entry into our Sixth Form requires 5 grade 4 or about GCSEs including English and Maths.
