BTEC Performing Arts is a vocational course, centered around Acting. The course develops performing skills through practical exploration of existing works as well as the application of skills and techniques through individual and group performances. Pupils use research and analysis to explore practitioners and their works as well as devise their pieces for performance. Pupils should be actively involved in every lesson, taking part in workshops led by staff and other students. They will perform to a range of different audiences and should be able to reflect upon their role within the piece. Year 12 1) Unit 2 – Developing Skills and Techniques for Live= Performance 2) Unit 1 – Investigating Practitioner’s Work & Unit 19 – Acting Styles 3) Unit 3 – Group Performance Workshop 4) Unit 3 – Group Performance Workshop 5) Unit 16 – Writing for Performance & Unit 29 – Storytelling for Performance 6) Unit 16 – Writing for Performance & Unit 29 – Storytelling for Performance Year 13 1) Unit 4 – Performing Arts in the Community & Unit 6 – Final Live Performance 2) Unit 1 – Investigating Practitioner’s work RESIT 3) Unit 5 – Individual Performance Commission 4) Unit 5 – Individual Performance Commission 5) Unit 28 – Variety Performance 6) Unit 28 – Variety Performance What to expect • Practical workshops developing skills, using scripts or devised material • Independent research tasks, note taking, and analyzing pieces and practitioners • Lots of performing! • Written logs recording the rehearsal process and evaluating your role Recommended Reading/Viewing • Games for Actors and Non-Actors by Augusto Boal • National Theatre productions including Treasure Island, and Frankenstein, etc, Kneehigh performances such as The • Flying Lovers of Vitebsk and any other live theatre performances
Students who intend to study the International Baccalaureate Careers Programme will be required to achieves five GCSEs at 5 or above including English and Maths. English at grade 4 or above. A keen interest in Performing Arts, acting and performing
Year 12: Unit 1 Unit 3 Year 13: Unit 1 resits Unit 5 Each unit is graded from Near Pass to Distinction and given points. At the end of the course, these are combined with the internal units and added up to give the final overall grade.
