A 2 year course designed to inspire, challenge and motivate students!! Students study a wide variety of topics which are rich in cultural references to broaden your horizons and knowledge. You will develop your linguistic skills alongside your understanding of the culture and society of the countries where French is spoken. Year 1:- The changing nature of family (La famille en voie de changement, The 'cyber-society' (La « cyber-société »), The place of voluntary work (Le rôle du bénévolat) plus one book. Year 2:- Positive features of a diverse society (Les aspects positifs d'une société diverse), How criminals are treated (Comment on traite les criminels) plus one film and one research project. You need a determination to “have a go” and to not let nerves get in the way. You need to be focussed, with an ability for self and independent study and the discipline to study regularly. A curiosity of the countries in which French in spoken is desirable as is an understanding of - and an interest in - cultural diversity.

Paper 1 Listening, Reading & Writing 2 hours 30 minutes 50% Paper 2 Writing 2 hours 20% (one question in French on a set text from a choice of two questions and one question in French on a set film from a choice of two questions) Paper 3 Speaking 21-23 minutes (including 5 mins preparation) 30% (Discussion of a sub-theme based on a stimulus card / presentation and discussion of individual re-search project).
