The course is designed to take a broad view of Fashion and textile design and manufacturing. It allows you to experience a wide variety of practical skills including pattern drafting, construction methods, and decorative techniques. You will learn about design methodology as well as gaining an understanding of industrial and commercial practices. You will also have the opportunity to study the history of costume from 1900 to present day with emphasis on the world events which influenced these fashion changes eg films, music and world wars.
You must have achieved 5 passes including mathematics and English, where a pass is defined as GCSE 9-4 and pass or better at level 2 BTEC.
External examination 50% of the overall A-level Paper 1 Technical principles (120 marks 30%) Paper 2 Designing and making principles (80 marks 20%) NEA 50% of the A-level A substantial design and make project and supporting portfolio (100 marks 50%) The NEA is internally marked and externally moderated. During the course, you will be assessed on knowledge and understanding of practical skills via the design and make projects. These are graded in line with exam board criteria. The core content will be assessed every 6 weeks through praising stars tests in lessons. The year 12 exams will be internally assessed at the end of the academic year
