BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Applied Science This course consists of six mandatory units plus two optional units that provide a combined total of 720 learning hours which is equivalent to 2 A levels (10 hours per week). There are a wide range of optional units to choose from which range from Scientific Practical Skills, Astronomy, Diseases and Infections, Microbiology, Genetics and Genetic Engineering.
Minimum of 5 grade 5 at GCSE or equivalent. Single requirement at least 1 Grade 4 or equivalent in your science GCSE, Double requirement at least 2 Grade 4 or equivalent in your science GCSE.
Some units are assessed by way of a formal external examination (Pearson). Other assignments are assessed internally using a range of assessment materials and then moderated externally in June. Each unit carries equal weighting towards the final grade.
