Students will study core elements relating to education including: • Types of education and roles within these • Supporting education • Safeguarding and well being • Behaviour • Parents/families and carers • Working with others • Child development • Observation and assessment • Reflective practice • Equality and diversity • Special educational needs and disability • English as an additional language They will also complete the occupational specialism – Early Years Educator including: • Supporting play and early education • Developing relationships with children to facilitate development • Planning and providing care and education to children • Safeguarding health, safety and wellbeing of children • Partnership work with colleague’s parents and other professionals
Minimum of 5 A*-C grades / grade 5 (new grading structure) at GCSE or equivalent. Grade C or equivalent in your chosen study subject is preferred. Clear DBS check showing no criminal convictions, as you will work with young children.
Core components: - Two written exam papers (Core Elements 1-6 and 7-12) - Employer set project Occupational specialism: - Synoptic assignments under controlled conditions (Production of activity plans) –externally marked. - Observations on placement in schools/nurseries – internal assessment externally moderated. - Observations carried out by students on children in placement plus case study observation provided by NCFE –externally marked.
