Course summary

Geography is a diverse and engaging subject that covers issues relevant to our world today. A range of technologies is used for areas such as fieldwork which can be undertaken on any area of the specification content. The specification embraces contemporary geography whilst retaining key elements of traditional geography. The subject content follows an ‘issues and impacts’ approach throughout. It has a developmental structure which helps to facilitate progression through the course and beyond to link with the demands of higher level study.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in GCSE Geography.

Component 1: Physical Geography (2 hours 30 minutes) 40% Section A: Water and Carbon Cycles Section B: Either Hot Desert Environments and their Margins or Coastal Systems and Landscapes Section C: Either Hazards or Ecosystems Under Stress or Cold Environments Component 2: Human Geography (2 hours 30 minutes) 40% Section A: Global Systems and Global Governance Section B: Changing Places Section C: Either Contemporary Urban Environments or Population and the Environment or Resources Security Component 3: Geographical Investigation (coursework) 20% An individual investigation which must include data collected in the field.
