Business Studies is a topical and relevant A level which is always popular due to it being relatable to the world we see around us. Students start the course looking at the market and entrepreneurs, considering some of the issues that a small business might face when starting out. Students then go on to consider the functional areas of businesses including people management, raising finance, managing production resources and dealing with external influences. In year 2, students go onto considering business strategy, decision making techniques, dealing with risk and uncertainty in a globalised world, etc The subject content is designed to engage students through topics and issues that are relevant in today’s society –you will study key contemporary developments such as digital technology, business ethics and globalisation. Business is a contemporary subject that is dynamic, progressive and useful in every aspect of life. It is relevant to all professions whether you choose to start your own business or progress in the business you work for. You will develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyse data, think critically about issues and make informed decisions – all skills that are needed for further study and employment. Real life case studies will be used to make it easier for students to relate to and apply their knowledge and skills developed throughout the course. You will acquire competence in quantitative skills such as the ability to calculate cost, revenue, profit and breakeven; problem solving, decision making, self motivation and effective time management skills.
