Our aim is to build on the success you have achieved with your GCSE Art and Design, but also give you an opportunity to be independent and explore your own individual skills and interests to achieve aspirational outcomes. We have a Sixth Form Studio available for you to use in independent study sessions and also the opportunity if you wish to support younger Art students in their lessons. We run a number of day trips over the two years to both London, Oxford and more local venues of interest. These involve both research for practical projects, to collect images to inspire you and gallery visits to develop your critical awareness. This qualification will provide you with an excellent insight into an Art Foundation course which ultimately could lead to an Art related degree. The creative sector is hugely exciting and always changing and expanding. A Level Art and Design can lead to a career in one of many areas including: fashion, fine art, 3D design, computer design, engineering, architecture, graphics, animation, jewellery design, museum and gallery conservation and theatre/film/costume design.
GCSE Art and Design Grade 5 or above
60% coursework/personal portfolio and 40% Externally Set Assignment (practical exam). The course comprises four units, two in Year 12 which consist of a foundation practical project and then a more independent thematic project, which will include a controlled assessment. The first unit in year 13 is the coursework element, this is based on expressive portraits and includes practical drawing and painting and an extended essay linked to your work. The final unit is the Externally Set Assignment, which consists of ten weeks preparation on a theme set by the exam board and 15 hours on the final piece.
