This course will be suitable for students who want to continue studying science as a Level 3 qualification and are thinking of careers in sport-related fields, the medical world including nursing, paramedics, radiotherapy and lab work, as well as primary school teaching. It links well with subjects such as Health and Social Care and Sports Science. Year 12 builds on GCSE concepts in Biology, Chemistry and Physics and includes a practical skills portfolio. There is also an exam on Science in the Modern World where we look at issues in science and how they are communicated Year 13 units investigate topics such as Microbiology and the Human Body. These optional units can be tailored to suit interests and career aspirations within the group
Grade 5 in at least 1 Science and Grade 4 in Maths
50% portfolio work and 50% external examination
