Speech and Drama
Course summary
Our two-year vocational BTEC course, with its specialism in Musical Theatre, has been chosen because it provides excellent preparation for students who want to progress on to Theatre/ Drama schools, universities and, ultimately, to careers in the industry. It is delivered by teachers with a reputation for supporting young people through their qualifications and providing outstanding performance opportunities in professional-quality facilities on the Airedale Campus: a three-hundred-seat theatre together with three drama and two dance studios. Alongside Airedale’s enthusiastic and dedicated teachers, students will regularly work with visiting artists and theatrical companies. The course combines practical assignments with the study of a variety of performing arts disciplines. You will work on group projects and individual assignments and be encouraged to learn a range of skills and techniques, becoming involved in all aspects from backstage to front-of-house. In the second year, you will produce a ‘final major project’. Over the two years, the range of subjects studied includes dance, drama and singing, acting technique, voice and speech workshops, choreography, production technology and arts administration.
