Course summary

Physics is an exciting, demanding subject that opens routes to many university courses and rewarding careers. It gives a better understanding of the world and universe around us, and our everyday interactions with them.

Entry requirements

Students will need to have obtained at least 5 grade 5s or above, including English and maths. Plus subject specific requirements for each intended subject at A-level: Physics - at least a 6 at GCSE Maths - at least a 6 at GCSE

How you'll be assessed

Physics is a fully exam-assessed course. You will be tested on your understanding of forces, motion and astrophysics in paper 1, and electronics, waves and particles in paper 2, there is also a synoptic unified assessment. Physics is a practical subject, and you will complete twelve assessed practicals throughout the course, as well as other non-assessed practicals to give you a good grounding in technical laboratory skills. The twelve assessed practicals will give a ‘practical endorsement’ to your qualification.
